Paul Fleisher has taught in the Richmond, Virginia Public Schools' Programs for the Gifted since 1978. He is also the author of more than two dozen books for young people and educators, including the Webs of Life series, Gorillas, Tanglers and Brain Food. His most recent books are Ice Cream Treats: The Inside Scoop, Ants and the five-volume series Secrets of the Universe. Paul is married to educator Debra Sims Fleisher. He is active in civic organizations that work for peace and social justice, including the Richmond Peace Education Center and the Virginia Forum. In 1988 he received the Virginia Education Association's Award for Peace and International Relations, and in 1999 he was awarded the Thomas Jefferson Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Natural Science Education.
